Good bloomin’ day!

img_4918Spring has sprung! Well, Friday, March 20 IS the first day of spring, and you know it’s here by signs of it popping up all around — vibrant colored crocus peeping up through the ground, full-to-the-brim greenbelt and foothills pathways, folks walking their dogs or just… walking. The birds are singing, the sun is shining and — the garden shows are in bloom! This is THE weekend to get your garden on!

There are two shows to get to, so make sure your green thumb is limbered up:
— The 13th U.S. Bank Boise Flower & Garden Show
— The Boise Spring Home Show

Here’s the scoop on The 13th annual U.S. Bank Boise Flower & Garden Show: It is Friday, March 20 through Sunday, March 22 at the Centre on the Grove where you can get just about anything for your garden or outdoor oasis — flower bulbs, seeds, plants; gloves, knee pads, fountains, ponds — or how about a pink shovel?
You can also sip wine, pick a garden expert’s brain, buy an orchid, bid on a tree and ooh and ahh over the best Bonsai in the Treasure Valley.

Frank Witte’s lobby garden “Think Pink, Go Green” will give you sustainable garden ideas and if you think you can only dream of your dreamy backyard, think again — the title sponsor of the show, U.S. Bank will be offering a low home equity rate to help make your landscape and gardening dreams come true. (TIP: Just make sure you don’t go in over your head! We don’t want any more home-related troubles.)

Gardening seminars on landscape design ideas to organic land and lawn care will run all three days. And, Mary‐Kate Mackay, co-author of “Sunset’s Secret Gardens—153 Design Tips from the Pros” will be on hand to give garden tips and will headline seminars: “Every Garden Tells a Story: What Garden Magazines Leave Out” and “Beauty in Bounds: Successful Container Gardening.”

Food from the Idaho Specialty Foods Association will be available, including spud fudge, mustards, sauces, rubs, salsas, marinades, candies and more.

Friday and Saturday feature Wine & Jazz Nights including wine tasting. Purchase a commemorative glass and sample wines as you listen to live jazz.

The Idaho Botanic Gardens will sponsor a Kid’s Craft for the younger set: they can plant vegetable seeds and bring home their own gardening treasure.

The Tree Auction is sponsored by the Idaho Nursery and Landscape
Association with proceeds helping to enhance the green industries through
education, research, environmental awareness and professionalism by the INLA.
